“4th of July In The City”, is an homage to what Vaughn has often considered to be her favorite holiday…especially when celebrated in New York. Reminiscent of watching the fireworks from her balcony on the 15th floor with the red,white and blue lighting on The Empire State Building, serving as backdrop. This classic “action painting”, created in the New York School art movement idiom, captures the vitality of the city during the hot Summercelebration. Whimsical figurative elements combine with wide sweeping strokes, applied in light impasto. The handmade, gallery wrapped canvas, measures 25″x29″x1″, and requires no frame for display

This abstract expressionist oil painting, was created with a medium impasto, on stretched canvas. Biomorphic figures in subdued, yet rich colors, suggest influences from the New York School art movement, in the “action painting” genre. As a non-representational work, this painting attempts to reach back to the point of inception of the creation of the New York School art movement, to capture the classic essence of the genre, from the perspective of a third generation artist, of this school. In seeking to maintain a feeling of the period for this work, it has been painted on a vintage canvas with wood self framed strips, which have been incorporated into the completed work.

The work incorporates traditional weaving techniques and patterns using anodized aluminum and copper coated wires, materials not usually associated with loom weaving. Fused glass panel is raised and mounted onto a welded and painted steel frame, specifically made to compliment to movement with the glass image. Sheet glass of varying colors are cut and set together, similar to a collage. This glass collage is then fired three times in a glass kiln. Dichroic glass, 24 carat gold and metallic oxide are fired within the glass to add brilliance and texture..

Using a method the artists have developed and dubbed “dripcasting” each Block menorah is cast in hot glass. We like to think that each piece represents a moment frozen in time when the liquid glass cools and hardens yet visually retains all the energy and movement of the molten glass. Created using professional artist watercolors on one hundred percent rag 300 lb watercolor paper. This painting is inspired by a quilt pattern that first came popular in the 1920’s and 30’s. The name for this quilt, Dresden Plate, reflects the romance of the Victorian Era with a love of elaborate decoration on household items and decor. Dresden, Germany was a center of 19th century romanticism movement in art, that included the decoration of fine porcelain. The plates were embellished with elaborate design using flowers, fruits and foliage, and would have been admired by women of the early 20th century who translated them into fabric forms
